St Catherine’s Hospice is a teaching hospice and provides an important training environment for health and social care professionals.
Clinical placements
We provide clinical placements for pre- and post-registration students undertaking programmes at the Universities of Surrey and Brighton in both nursing and occupational therapy. The Education Team also deliver teaching in end of life care across the academic levels.
We also teach medical students in conjunction with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School accommodating approximately 30 students per year.
Student Counselling placements
We are able to offer placements to students undertaking counselling courses.
The placements are suitable for students who wish to gain experience in working with people who are terminally ill, their families and the bereaved.
The next intake for students will be September 2009, with interviews taking place in July 2009. We require you to attend an initial training course which is 24 hours over 8 weeks, and then we will review of your suitability for the work at the end of the training and before we will accept you on to the team.
Supervision will be provided free of charge and given in groups which meet fortnightly.
We will allow you to record sessions if that is a requirement of your course.
For more information on counselling placements contact the Patient and Family Services Coordinator on 01293 447343. Apply online to join us as a volunteer.
Theological students and ordinands placements
We can offer up to three short placements a year for ordinands and theological students of any denomination training for ministry in the church. Placements are normally up to two weeks in duration and can be done as one or two blocks, or spread over several weeks. We can be flexible and will try to meet your requirements.
