St Catherine's Education Team are pleased to announce that the 5 day courses run at the Education and Training Department have been granted ReQ (Recognising educational Quality) status by the University of Surrey and the University of Brighton.
Both Universities recognise that many health and social care practitioners will have developed further knowledge and skills through practical experience which may not be reflected in any formal qualification or will have undertaken prior academic study, for example in the form of short courses. It is important this prior achievement is recognised and valued. It may reduce both the duration and assessment load of the course and can avoid repetitious learning. Accordingly, both universities recognise suitable prior learning under the Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning or AP(E)L programme.
Practitioners are able to gain recognition of this learning through the provision of appropriate evidence which may be used to gain entry to the programmes and may also be used for exemption from a module (or modules) leading to the award of diploma or degree.
Further details can be found on the Brighton and Surrey university websites.
St Catherine's 5 day courses were rigorously assessed, following submission of course documentation, including learning outcomes, schemes of work, course handbooks and reference lists. Those participants who undertake all 5 days of the course and successfully complete an assignment may be awarded academic credits. We are pleased to confirm that the following courses have been recognised:
Pain and Symptom Management at the End of Life
Principles of End of Life Care
Managing Non Malignant Disease at the End of Life
Developing Practice in End of Life Care
