Communication and Advance Care Planning

These two courses may be taken as two half days or together as one whole day.

These courses are available free of charge only to health and social care workers working in Surrey.To book a place on both or either course, please apply on-line or print off and complete the form found here. Please note that the closing date for applications is one week before the date of the course.

Communication ~ Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, the participants shouldl be able to:

  • establish your strengths as a communicator
  • explore the principles of effective communication
  • identify barriers to listening
  • practice different techniques to enhance communication

Advance Care Planning ~ Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, the participants shouldl be able to:

  • describe advance care planning
  • identify when you need to consider an advance care plan
  • discuss how you introduce an advance care plan
  • explore how an advance care plan aids decision-making
  • be aware of the End of Life Care Strategy and the influence of the Mental Capacity Act
