Principles of End of Life Care

A 5 day course covering the philosophy of palliative care; looking after yourself; end of life conversations; pain and symptom management; and loss and grief. This course has finished but due to popular demand, we are re-running the study day on Loss and Grief again on the 16th July and 24th September More

Reflections on the End of Life

This course has now finished  A 5 day course examining the meaning of life, spirituality, culture and religion, theories of loss and grief, and death rituals and funeral rites. More

Pain and Symptom Management at the End of LIfe

A 5 day course looking at the nature of pain and its assessment, the drug and non drug management of pain, complex symptoms in end of life care and palliative care emergencies.  More.

Ethical Issues in End of Life Care

A 5 day course covering ethical prinicples in clinical decision making; the mental capacity act; choice; consent and power of attorney; and current ethical dilemmas. More

Managing Non-Malignant Disease at the End of Life

A 5 day course looking at neurological diseases, including MND, Parkinson's, MS, CJD, Multiple System Atrophy, and other non-malignant disease such as Heart Failure, Renal Failure and Respiratory Disorders.  More

Developing Practice in End of Life Care

A 5 day course covering audit and research in palliative care, finding the evidence via the internet and the National Library for Health, report writing and writing for publication and presentation and faciliation skills workshops.  More

 Visitor Workshops

 A chance to have a look round St Catherine's Hospice, meet members of the team and have a discussion about the nature of palliative care. More

Syringe Driver Workshop 

An examination of the rationale of using a syringe driver, the different types, setting up and troubleshooting. More

Intravenous Therapy Workshop

Covering the indications for and use of  intravenous access devices and the practicalities of their use.  More.

Basic Communication Skills

A workshop looking at the prinicples of and barriers to effective communication and giving an opportunity to practice skills and strategies.  More.

Dementia Care Training

This course has now finished. Looking at the nature and impact of dementia and ways of communicating with a person suffering from dementia.  More.

Up Front and Personal

A workshop for non-clinical staff examining how to manage difficult situations and emotions and how to establish appropriate boundaries. More.

Nutrition in End of Life Care

A study covering the assessment of nutritional status and creative ways to enchance nutritional uptake in this group. More.

First Aid at Work

A four day course leading to a recognised HSE qualification.  More
