Special gifts to show you care
Buy a special gift for a special occasion – whether it’s Christmas, a wedding, birthday or special anniversary you can buy a very special gift that will benefit hospice patients and their families.
All these items are essential to the vital work of St Catherine’s Hospice, along with our other services. Of course we won’t send the gift to you but you will get a card and a voucher to give to someone special. You can also gift aid your donation as long as you are a UK tax payer which makes your gift worth even more to the hospice, at no extra cost to you.
Meal for one - £4
Just £4 would buy meals for one day for a patient staying on our wards. Our patients like healthy and tasty food in small portions and that is exactly what our chef provides them with.
Ambulance Traveller - £10
Day hospice is a vital service, giving patients the opportunity to meet people in a similar situation, access a range of therapies and nursing support whilst also giving their carers a much needed break. Our ambulance traveller collects day hospice patients from their homes and also transports patients staying on our wards to hospital appointments. £10 would pay to run the traveller for one day.
Occupational Therapist - £23
Our occupational therapist visits patients in their own homes, enabling them to retain as much independence as possible through conserving energy and providing appropriate equipment. One home visit costs £23
Complementary Therapies - £27
Just £27 would pay for a patient to receive an hour long complementary therapies session, which could be massage, aromatherapy massage, reflexology, relaxation or reiki. These therapies help patients relax and reduce anxiety but specific therapies can also help other symptoms like nausea and breathlessness.
Counselling sessions - £45
£138 would pay for three counselling sessions giving patients and families to talk about how they are feeling. Our trained counsellors visit people in their homes and on the in-patient unit.
Community Nurse Visit - £97
Our specialist community nurses offer advice, comfort and support to patients in their own homes, helping them to cope with the difficulties associated with their illness. Often there is follow up work to do with GPs and District Nurses after the visit to ensure the patient receives the very best care possible. £97 would pay for one community nurse visit and the associated follow up work.
In-patient Nurse - £180
Our in-patient unit provides 24 hour hands on nursing care to those admitted for symptom control, respite or end of life care, as well as giving practical and emotional support to their families. £180 would fund one of our trained and experienced nurses for one day.
Day Hospice trip - £250
Day Hospice trips are an important part of our service helping patients to forget the stresses and troubles of their illness and everyday life. Trips out, even to the shops, can be difficult for people who have limited mobility and need constant care. Our nurses and volunteers are able to give the support needed during an enjoyable day out. A trip for up to 15 patients costs £250.
