“I thought the lottery was a good way to raise funds, but never thought I would win. When I first looked at the cheque I was very pleased because I thought I had won £100, but then I put my glasses on and found it was £1000 so I was over the moon!”

Flora London Marathon 2008
Congratulations to our 39 runners who successfully completed the gruelling 26.2 miles of the 2008 Flora London Marathon on Sunday 13th April.  Despite the early start and the downpours, they all did fantastically well and fully deserve their finishers medals! As ever, the atmosphere all along the route was fantastic and everyone had a great time both running and watching.  Those of us from St Catherine's who went along to give our support are hoarse from all the screaming and shouting!

We must also say a massive thank you to the team of students from Sussex Central College and their teacher Iris Bird, for massaging away the aches and pains of all our runners (and many others) once they had crossed the finish line.  This is one of the perks for runners who are part of the St Catherine's team, but the students also massaged anyone who dropped in front of them - well done for all your efforts!

Also a big thank you is owed to Steve Swain at the Southdown PSV bus company who donated a bus and driver to take our runners to the start line - yet another fantastic perk we're able to offer runners who are part of our team.

We are proud of each and every one of them and what they have achieved for us here at the hospice.  So far our runners have raised almost £70,000, which will allow us to continue providing our specialised end of life care free of charge to people, their families, friends and carers in Horsham, Crawley, Mid-Sussex and South East Surrey.
