Itinerary
DAY 1: Fly from London to Beijing.
DAY 2: Today you will arrive in Beijing and if there is time you will visit the fabulous Forbidden City.
DAY 3: Your first day walking will be spent on the Great Wall as it snakes along the ridgeline of the Yanshan Mountains. From where you are dropped off you will walk to your evening’s accommodation in Huangyaguan.
DAY 4: Leaving behind the beautiful valley where you have stayed, you will head to 'Heaven’s Ladder', a steep climb of over 200 steps leading up the cliff face. You will spend tonight in the houses of a local village, a real cultural experience.
DAY 5: Today you will be following farmer’s tracks along the side of wall across a wild and sweeping landscape that is steeped in history. At the end of the day you will be transported to Jinshanlin where you will spend the night.
DAY 6: After a short bus ride you will find yourself once again following the course of the Great Wall. This part of the wall was constructed by the Qing Dynasty, the last dynasty to rule over China.
DAY 7: Superb scenery accompanies today’s trekkers. Even when you leave the wall at Simatei you will still be able to see it clinging precariously to the rock face opposite. You can finish the day with an exhilarating (but optional) zip slide across the lake before catching a boat to that night’s accommodation.
DAY 8: Another day walking on the wall will reward you with stunning views as it stretches off to the horizon in both directions. Once you reach the destination of Mutianyu, you will be able to haggle in the local markets on the way to your hotel.
DAY 9: Your final day's trek will take you on a circuit of the restored wall at Juyongguan where warriors once fought, before returning to Beijing where you will enjoy a celebration meal.
DAY 10: You will be able to enjoy free time until your transfer to the airport for the flight back to London. Arrive London Heathrow; overnight flights will arrive back into London the next morning.
