More than 800 Santa's helpers ran to raise money for St Catherine's Hospice to help local people with a terminal illness.
The St Catherine's Hospice 2013 Santa Runs took place at in East Grinstead, Caterham and Horsham on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November and were sponsored by the Gatwick Group. Seasoned runners and families with babies in tow all donned free Santa costumes to run the three, four and two-and-a-half kilometre routes to raise money for St Catherine’s to care for local people with a terminal illness.
Over the 12 days of Christmas, it will cost the charity around £130,000 to care for patients and families in Sussex and Surrey. Jen Wickham, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said: “We are very grateful to the Santa Runners who joined us at our Santa Runs this year as well as to the professionals and public figures that helped us with the warm up and in starting the race. I’d also like to thank the volunteers who gave up their time to help, and Gatwick Group, who kindly sponsored this year's run.
“The Santa Runs are a great, fun event and a fantastic way to get some exercise with family, friends, or even pets but they are also a vital source of income. St Catherine’s must raise £15,000 every day to continue to provide care and comfort for terminally ill people, so taking part in these events really does make a difference.”
Bob Toon, Managing Director at Gatwick Group, said: "We are delighted to support the work of St Catherine's Hospice. I have witnessed their care for my mother and the people of Sussex and Surrey are lucky to have the hospice there for what might be one of the hardest times of life. We would not be able to support St Catherine's without our customers so I would like to thank them for making this possible"
