Why can only women take part?
Why can only women take part?
The Midnight Walk invites women of all ages and fitness levels to join together to help raise funds for their local hospice. The walk is about empowering women by being supported by women. Many women will know a family member or friend who has needed end of life care and there is something very special about a group of women joining together for a common cause. However, we do need lots of volunteers on the night so any men who would like to be involved are welcome to contact us about joining the Midnight Walk Volunteer Team.
How much does it cost to take part?
There is a £15 registration fee. This covers the cost of administration, your t-shirt, a light breakfast and refreshments. This is so that all the sponsorship money you raise can go directly to helping hospice patients.
How long is the route?
The route is 13 miles with rest points along the way and remember it is not a race!!
Where does the route go?
The Midnight Walk is a figure-of-eight walk through Horsham town centre - a map can be found here.
Will it be safe?
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. The event has been organised in conjunction with local authorities and the route will be well marshalled by volunteers. A sweeper vehicle will also follow the last walkers to ensure that no-one is left behind.
How long will it take?
The walk will take approximately 3.5 hours for a fit walker but there is no rush and we encourage walkers to go at their own pace. There will be lead walkers as well as people at the rear of the walk to ensure the last participants return safely.
Will there be toilets on the night?
Yes! There will be plenty of toilets at the registration point – you can use these before the start, at re-registration time and at the end of the walk.
Is the route suitable for children?
The Midnight Walk is not suitable for children under the age of 13 years old. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Do I need to be fit?
Take the walk at your own pace, whatever your fitness level, but we do recommend that you should train before taking part in the walk.
Will there be any refreshments?
We suggest you bring some water and there will be refreshments at the mid point and a light breakfast at the end of the route.
Can I bring my dog?
No pets or animals are permitted at the Midnight Walk or on the event route except for guide dogs.
How much sponsorship do I have to raise?
We do not ask for a minimum amount of sponsorship but please remember that every pound you raise will go towards helping St Catherine’s Hospice provide end of life care for local people and their friends, families and carers.
How can I get sponsorship?
Ask everyone who knows you and don’t forget to ask them to tick the gift aid box if they are eligible as this will increase their sponsorship by 25p per pound at no cost to you. We also suggest you set up a site on JustGiving click through to JustGiving website.
Who is eligible to tick the Gift Aid box?
If the person sponsoring you is a UK tax payer or pays Capital Gains Tax then you can make the donation worth even more. For every £1 you give to us we get an extra 25p.
Do I need special footwear or clothing?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and well-fitting footwear.
Will there be parking on the night?
Yes, car parking is available near the start. There is parking available around the town, but the closest car parks are: Hurst Road (Pavilions Leisure Centre), the BT Exchange Car Park, the Council Office car park (on North Street) and Horsham Train station. Please try to car share where possible. For a map of car parks in Horsham please see click here
Where is the registration point?
Registration will take place in a marquee in Horsham Park, behind the Pavilions Leisure Centre from 10.30pm.
Will it go ahead if it's raining?
Yes! As the British weather is notoriously unpredictable please do keep an eye on the weather forecast and come dressed in suitable clothing. The walk will only be cancelled if we think it will be too dangerous for you to take part.
