Being referred

Patient at home reading the St Catherine's patient handbookYou may have mixed feelings about being referred to St Catherine’s Hospice and this may have raised some questions for you. We hope that the information below will answer some of these.

We are here to help you and your family, and to support carers and friends. If there is anything else at all that you would like to know, please do contact us.

Every aspect of life can be affected when you are told that your illness is no longer responsive to curative treatment.  Limited prognosis can bring great anxiety, stress and a sense of loss of control. You have been referred to St Catherine’s in order for you to receive palliative care.  We can help and support you, your friends and family at this difficult time.

Palliative care is based on a simple idea – that the person is more than the illness. Each of us has unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
