Complementary Therapy

Massage and complementary therapy at St Catherine's HospiceWe offer complementary therapy treatments to our patients, their families and carers.  We offer these treatments alongside standard medical care because they have many beneficial effects such as aiding relaxation, reducing stress and helping to induce feelings of wellbeing.

We have a number of fully qualified volunteer therapists who work with the hospice team on a regular basis.   They offer:

  • massage
  • aromatherapy
  • reflexology
  • relaxation

Complementary therapy treatment may help if you are having the following problems:

  • feeling anxious
  • feeling down or depressed
  • not able to relax
  • pain
  • fatigue and feel tired all the time
  • breathlessness
  • stress
  • unable to sleep or get enough sleep
  • bowel problems
  • feeling sick
  • mouth care - eg dry mouth
  • coming to terms with changes caused by your illness or its treatment

Our complementary therapy treatments are non-medical treatments that help you feel better by:

  • helping control symptoms - for example: relieving muscle tension, soothing dry and brittle skin.
  • inducing a deep sense of relaxation - the systematic, therapeutic use of touch in massage helps relax the soft tissues of the body and can help trigger a release of emotions.
  • making someone feel special, pampered and cared for.

All our complementary therapy treatments are offered subject to the availability of a therapist.
