Day services is an important part of the care we offer at St Catherine's, although it is not necessarily right or suitable for everyone.
It combines a social day out for patients with an opportunity for them to share concerns and feelings about their illness and circumstances in a friendly and supportive environment. This also provides carers an opportunity for a break and some time to themselves.
We are located in a newly refurbished part of the main hospice building.
We have a large area for group activities, a conservatory dining area and a new art room, all overlooking our well-tended gardens.
People attend day services for a variety of reasons: to meet others in a similar situation and share experiences, to give their carers a break and to take part in a variety of craft and theraputic activities.
Day services is open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Up to 15 people can attend on any one day. Patients are allocated a specific day in order to get to know the team and build relationships.
A St Catherine’s community nurse will probably be the first person to discuss whether or not attending day services may be of interest. However, other members of the hospice team may discuss this with you as well.
Day services moved into their new, refurbished home in January 2008.
