Medical Team

The Medical Team is the collective title for the group of doctors who provide medical care at St Catherine’s Hospice. Providing medical care at St Catherine's Hospice

The team includes Consultants in Palliative Medicine, a staff grade doctor, local GPs – all of whom are permanent staff – and other qualified doctors who spend time at St Catherine's Hospice to gain experience of palliative medicine. The medical team is led by two consultants in palliative medicine, Dr Catherine Gleeson and Dr Patricia Brayden.

Our staff grade doctor has experience in palliative care and sees patients both at home and on the wards.  They help to provide continuity of senior medical expertise. Registrars are fully qualified doctors training to become consultants in palliative medicine. They usually spend a year at a time at St Catherine’s. Our ward doctors are qualified doctors undertaking a four-month placement to gain experience in palliative care. We have two local GPs, with an interest in palliative care, who opt to work part time at the hospice in order to maintain their skills in end of life care.
