Where is the Library?
The Library is in the Education and Training Centre, which is situated at the rear of the main Hospice Building.
When is the Library open?
The Library is staffed from 9.30 to 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 9.30 to 5pm on Thursdays.
What does the Library hold?
A wide selection of books and other media on Palliative Care, Grief and Bereavement, and Pain and Symptom Control. Other sections include general nursing and medical textbooks and a selection on children and death.
What journals do you stock?
Specialist Journals include Palliative Medicine, European Journal of Palliative Care, the International Journal of Palliative Nursing and Journal of Wound Care. We also keep The Journal of Advanced Nursing, Nursing Times and other more general journals.
How do I join the Library?
On completion of an application form and payment of £25 per annum to join the library, this includes specialist librarian support. The application form is available here.
What other services does the Library offer?
Internet access, including to the National Library for Health, computer use, photocopying, faxing and specialist training on searching the internet
What is the National Library for Health?
This is an NHS internet resource giving access to on line full text journals, clinical databases, Nice Guidance, the Cochrane Library, Specialist Libraries, Clinical Knowledge Summaries and NHS Headlines, accessible with an Athens password.
What is an Athens password and how do I get one?
An Athens password gives access to National Library for Health and other clinical sites. All NHS workers and all non NHS healthcare workers in Kent Surrey and Sussex are eligible to obtain a password. Please speak to Joanna Tuck on 01293 447354 or email joannatuck@stch.org.uk for further details.
