 I am a qualified counsellor looking to gain accreditation with BACP. Can I acquire my counselling hours through volunteering at St Catherine’s?

Yes. We will consider taking you on to the team. You will be required to complete an 18 hours training course and undergo supervision with us.

Do you provide training?

Yes. You will be required to attend a training course of 18 hours, spread over 6 weeks before we will allocate you clients. Attendance at 5 sessions is mandatory.

Do you provide supervision?

Yes. One of our team is a qualified supervisor and she will provide ongoing group supervision. You will be required to attend a minimum of 75% of supervision.

Do you offer Continuous Professional Development?

Yes. We have study sessions planned during the year and as a volunteer counsellor you would be in a position to influence the content of those days.

What support is available to me once I have become a volunteer with you?

Our Volunteer Services Manager is available to support you in any general issue relating to volunteering at St Catherine’s. Your supervisor is available between supervision sessions and the Social Support Services Manager is also available if there are other issues relating to your role at the hospice. She will meet with you very 6 months to discuss the placement.

I am a qualified counsellor and I want to help St Catherine’s by offering my time and skills.

We would welcome your enquiry. We would require you to undergo a recruitment process and initial training and would then provide ongoing monthly supervision.

What resources are available to me at St Catherine’s?

Volunteers may use the library situated in the education centre. You would also be able to take advantage of the internal education courses that are available where they are appropriate to your needs.

I am interested in working in the counselling team but I have no training or experience.

Within the team we have Bereavement Support Visitors, and you could apply to join them. You would need to undergo a 24-hour training programme, delivered over 8 weeks of which you would be required to attend at least 7 days. On completion you would be interviewed.
