6 Ways To Support Your Hospice This Hospice Care Week

News and Blog

This week is Hospice Care Week. The annual week of activity aims to raise the profile of hospice care across the UK and change people’s perceptions of hospice care. Here at St Catherine’s, there are a multitude of ways that you can get involved – both this week and every week! Below we discuss some of these:

1. Take part in our events

St Catherine’s has a huge list of events happening at any one time, and with the vast range of different activities going on, there really is something for everyone. Some of our exciting upcoming events are:

Sussex Landmarks Hike – Sunday 14 October: Registration from 9am

This challenging but picturesque hike takes you through the Sussex countryside and past historic landmarks including the Balcombe Viaduct, Ardingly Reservoir and Wakehurst Place Seedbank. The cross country route will allow you to enjoy the changing colours of Autumn whilst raising funds for your local hospice. Visit our website for further information.

Halloween Challenge – Sunday 28 October: 10am – 5pm (Hourly slots)

Join us for our brand new, family-friendly Halloween event at Copthorne Prep School! The Halloween Challenge is suitable for all ages and takes place over a one mile course with three spooky zones. Visit our website for further information

2. Visit our shops

Our hospice shops across Sussex and East Surrey are hugely important to the work that we do, and last year brought in more than £1.6m; money that will help us deliver vital care and support to local people.

By donating your good quality unwanted items to your nearest St Catherine’s shop, or by popping in and buying something yourself, you’ll be helping us reach even more people in your local community when they need us the most.

Find out more about where our shops are located, and what you can donate here.

3. Volunteer with us

Give a little of your time, for someone whose time is limited. Interested in volunteering with us? You’re in great company. More than 1,000 people already give their time and expertise to help make our specialised care truly exceptional. From cheering runners across the finish line to making an unforgettable connection by offering a cup of tea – our volunteers are an incredible bunch and we would be unable to deliver our services and care without them. Find out how you can get involved here.

4. Work for us

‘I work for St Catherine’s because I love having a second family away from home. My team inspire me everyday!’

Every single role at St Catherine’s is hugely important to the work that we do and every person who works here is an ambassador for the hospice. We work together to ensure that we are able to deliver vital care and support to local terminally ill people.

We currently have a variety of vacancies. If you would like to be part of our ambitious plans, you can find out more about these roles and apply here.

5. Leave a gift in your will

Did you know that one in four of our patients is cared for thanks to gifts left to the hospice by people in their wills? Remembering St Catherine’s in your will is a simple way of helping us to be there for future generations, and really is the greatest gift you can give. Every gift, in every will, makes a real difference to the care we give to terminally ill people across Surrey and Sussex.

By remembering us in your will, we can be there for more people when life comes full circle. Find out more here.

6. Donate to us

Currently, two out of three local people could be dying without the end of life care they need. Your donation will provide families with the support they deserve and mean that no one has to face death and loss alone. There are several ways to donate to us:

We hope one of these might inspire you to get involved, and there’s no better week than Hospice Care Week.
