St Catherine’s Hospice celebrates bumper shopping season

News and Blog

Whilst High Street retailer Debenhams recently announced disappointing Christmas sales St Catherine’s is celebrating after a bumper December for its 15 shops across Sussex and Surrey.

It seems savvy shoppers were on the hunt for a bargain, as the local hospice’s charity shops raised more than £148,000 throughout December. This is up by more than seven per cent from December 2016.

All profits from St Catherine’s shops help provide expert care and support to local terminally ill people and their family and friends when life comes full circle.

Wayne Stepney, Retail Development Manager at St Catherine’s said: “I’d like to thank everyone who donated items or brought something in one of our St Catherine’s charity shops and helped us have a bumper shopping month! We’re really grateful for our loyal customers and the high-quality donations we receive.

Our strong sales show that often your unwanted items can be the very item someone else is looking for. Now we’re into a New Year it’s not too late to support us. If you’re de-cluttering or have any unwanted gifts, please donate them to your local St Catherine’s shop. We can make use of them and your generosity will help us be there to care for even more people who need us.

We can also raise money from your unwanted furniture at our furniture store at Denvale Trade Park in Crawley, and if you have any wedding and prom dresses taking up space our Bridal Store in Horsham would love to hear from you! Every donation or sale makes a difference to terminally ill people in your local community.”

Last year, St Catherine’s cared for almost 2,000 people across Sussex and Surrey. The local hospice provides care at their Inpatient Unit, through Day Hospices and in people’s own homes in the community.
