Whatever your reason for considering St Catherine’s in your Will, it’s a special way to leave a lasting legacy of care.
Including us in your Will might feel like a fitting way to pay tribute to someone you love, or to say thank you for the care your loved one received. You may want to ensure future generations have access to hospice care if they need it, or you may want to make a lasting difference in your local community.
It costs around £14 million to run our hospice each year, and we receive less than a third of our funding from the government, so the special gifts that come from people’s Wills are a vital contribution to our work. In fact, gifts in Wills make up 30 per cent of our voluntary income.

It’s really quick and easy to include our hospice in your Will. You can use our free online Will writing platform, Farewill, and have your Will ready in up to five days. Or, you can use a solicitor to draw up your Will or amend an existing one. They will have the correct wording to use; all you need is our registered address and charity number:

There are three main types of gifts you can leave in your Will:
Pecuniary gift – a cash gift of a set amount
Specific gift – a particular item (e.g. artwork)
Residuary gift – any share, percentage, or fraction of an Estate
No. Every gift in every Will, however large or small, makes a difference. Even one per cent can be left to us, so those closest to you receive 99 per cent.

Yes. Gifts to charities are exempt from inheritance tax, and if the gift is worth 10 per cent of your estate or more, then your overall rate of inheritance tax will reduce from 40 per cent to 36 per cent.
No. If you wish to add our hospice to an existing Will you can include a codicil, which is a simple legal document that allows you to add an extra gift without having to update your Will. We advise speaking to a professional about this to ensure the process is carried out properly.
