Description

Are you passionate about palliative care nursing? Do you thrive on teamwork? Would you enjoy a varied role where you can immediately see the positive difference you make to the people you care for? If you’re answering yes, then St Catherine’s Hospice would love to hear from you.

We’re looking for experienced nurses to join our great team of palliative and end of life care Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).

Working as part of a supportive and integrated team of nurses, covering East Surrey and West Sussex, you will make a difference to local patients and their families by offering expert advice and support via the telephone and visiting out of hours in exceptional circumstances. Delivering specialist palliative care to people at the end of life, you’ll have shared clinical responsibility for patients referred to the hospice, supported by our Community Manager.

A confident decision-maker, you’ll have the passion to always improve and advance and be happy to be part of a rota system with colleagues to provide 7 days a week cover. This makes sure there is always someone available on our telephone line to support our patients and their families. You’ll also contribute to a positive working environment with an emphasis on teamwork and cooperation.

The CNS role at St Catherine’s aligns with Health Education England’s Advanced Clinical Practice Framework to ensure our underpinning standards are consistent with advanced level practice, including Physical assessment and Prescribing; however, consideration will be given to applicants with relevant experience who can demonstrate commitment to acquiring these skills within an agreed timeframe.

People often have a preconception of what working in a hospice is like but often the reality is very different. Read what it’s like working and being at St Catherine’s on our blog.

The post is offered on a full time and part time basis, your working hours will be up to 37.5 hours per week. You will participate in a rota system providing a 7 day per week cover for our patients and their families, via telephone advice and support, but may include visiting out of hours in exceptional circumstances. Please note a full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle is essential for this role.

We will shortlist applications as we receive them so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible as this vacancy may close at any time. If you are interested, have questions, or would like to discuss any aspect of this role in more detail, please contact Cathy Maylin on 01293 447333 or email cathymaylin@stch.org.uk.
