St Catherine’s thanks High Sheriff of West Sussex

News and Blog

Everyone at St Catherine’s Hospice would like to say a huge thank you to Jonathan Lucas, the High Sheriff of West Sussex in 2014 – 2015 and his wife Caroline, for their hard work
and extraordinary fundraising during his year of office.

Jonathan named St Catherine’s as his charity of choice during his shrieval year of 2014-15, specifying that he would like the funds he raised to support St Catherine’s Day Hospice. Over the course of the year Jonathan and Caroline helped to raise an astonishing £90,000 and supported the hospice at a number of high profile events.

A special thank you event was held at the hospice on 5 May, to mark Jonathan and Caroline’s tremendous achievement. They were given artwork created by Day Hospice and a special commemorative edition of newsletter, Headlines about their work.

Giles Tomsett, Chief Executive at St Catherine’s, said: “On behalf of everyone at St Catherine’s I would like to extend my warmest gratitude to Jonathan and Caroline for their amazing support.

“Not only have they attended – and been a part of events like our Dragon Boat Festival, but they have generously opened up their home for our annual summer volunteers event and held a fantastic evening of music solely to raise money for St Catherine’s. In total, they raised an incredible £90,000, which will help us to care for terminally ill people at the most difficult point in their lives, and offer care and comfort to those closest to them. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity, spirit and kindness”.

Some of our Day Hospice patients who visited Warnham Park  said a few words of thanks too.

“Thank you for a wonderful day; a wonderful welcome to your home, beautiful walk amongst the bluebells. I walked further than I have managed for months, I felt “almost” rejuvenated by the surrounding and of course the company. “Thank you” seems a meagre thing to say for such a lovely day.”

“Thank you for today, it has given me a real boost walking in the gardens, which was my passion. Thank you for your kindness.”

“How generous to share this wonderful home. Really beautiful. Thank you.”
