Make your will and support St Catherine’s

News and Blog

Has making or updating your will been on your to-do list for a while? Then why not take advantage of St Catherine’s Hospice Make a Will Fortnight?

From 13 to 24 May 2019, 18 solicitors across Sussex and Surrey, including Ferndown Solicitors, Lewis & Dick, Irwin Mitchell, Stevensdrake Solicitors in Crawley and Sheppersons Solicitors in Gatwick are generously giving up their time in a limited number of appointments to help you make or update your will in exchange for a donation to St Catherine’s.

The suggested minimum donations are:

• £120 for a single will

• £180 for joint wills

Having a will is the only way to make sure that when you die, those you care about will benefit in the way you’d like. And even if you have a will, there might have been changes in your life that mean your will needs updating.

When Wendy’s husband Ken passed away after being under St Catherine’s care, Wendy used Make a Will Fortnight to write her will. She said, “Writing the will was such a hard thing to do but Andy, St Catherine’s Legacy Officer, was amazing and he and the solicitor I used made the process easy. I’d felt very exposed before sorting my will but I was comforted it had been done after.”

Whilst your family and friends come first, when making your will, we hope you will also consider using the opportunity to leave a gift to St Catherine’s. As a local charity, the expert care and support St Catherine’s provides is only made possible thanks to the generosity of the local community.

Andy Perry, Legacy Officer at St Catherine’s said, “Currently our hospice isn’t able to help everyone locally who needs our support. But our ambition is that in the future no one will have to face death and loss alone. By including a gift in your will, we’ll be here for the people you care about.”

Marianne decided to leave a gift in her will to St Catherine’s to thank the hospice for the care they provided to her husband Jim, and for the kindness they showed her and her family. Marianne said, “Jim dying was the worst possible time. But St Catherine’s was the best possible place for it to happen. Leaving a gift in my will is a chance to make sure that in decades to come St Catherine’s can be there to look after other people, like my Jim.”
