There’s still time to join our Midnight Walk

News and Blog

More than 750 people have already signed up for our Midnight Walk which is taking place in Horsham on Saturday 8 June. And there’s still time to make your steps count by joining them!

Sponsored by Gatwick Airport, this year’s walk has a brand new 2 mile family friendly route alongside existing 7, 13 or 20 mile walking routes, so everyone can join in.

You can walk as an individual or a group, in memory of someone you love, or for a personal challenge. But whatever your reason for walking you’ll guaranteed a great night! Alongside hundreds of other walkers you can expect a buzzing atmosphere, energetic warm up, live music, and volunteers cheering you on as you take on your challenge.

Kim Heather, Airspace Office Analyst at Gatwick Airport has already signed up to take part. She said, “I’ve always been inspired to take part as an opportunity to give something back to my local community. On the night, people all walk together for a great cause. Other people wave and high five you as you walk down the main street and their support gives you a real boost. The hospice does a fantastic job.”

A team of our community nurses and nursing assistants, who care for people in the comfort of their own homes, have also signed up. Nursing Assistant Katie Costello will be walking 20 miles alongside five colleagues. She said, “I’m taking part because I love my job and feel passionately about the work we do at the hospice. Everyday, I see firsthand how invaluable end of life support is and I want to do all I can to make sure St Catherine’s can continue to do what it does best.

I’m looking forward to the atmosphere, to meeting lots of fantastic people and making a difference. At St Catherine’s we can currently only reach one in three people who need our care. This means many people in our community are dying without the love and support that everybody deserves. This must change. We need to educate people about our care, and together, through events like the Midnight Walk, we must continue to raise money so we can care for more people.”

Last year more than 1,000 people walked through Horsham and raised an amazing £166,000 for our hospice. This year, we’re hoping even more people will sign up to help raise money. With just under a month to go, will you, your family and friends, join us for this inspiring night?

Louise Wise, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said: “By signing up for our Midnight Walk and raising money you’re doing something special. You’re helping make sure hospice care is there for more local people in your community when it’s needed most. The Midnight Walk is always a fantastic night. We hope you, and people you know, will join us to experience it yourself.”
