“An unforgettable experience for an amazing cause” – our Spinnaker Tower Abseil

News and Blog

On Sunday 11 May a fantastic group of fundraisers abseiled down the iconic Spinnaker Tower to raise vital funds for our hospice.

The skies were clear, spirits were high, and everyone brought amazing energy and enthusiasm to the event, with families and friends gathered at the bottom of the tower to cheer on their loved ones as they made their epic descent.

In total, 20 courageous individuals took part and together they’ve raised more than £19,000 – funds that will mean we can continue caring for local families who need us.

Among these brave supporters were Catherine and Kate – two Clinical Nurse Specialists from our Community team.

Catherine said: ‘‘What an incredible experience, I absolutely loved it! Kate and I were lucky enough to have a beautiful day, so the views were awesome. It was a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for the hospice given our recent and ongoing financial challenges’’.

Kate agreed: “I was thrilled to take part in the abseil down the Spinnaker Tower in support of St Catherine’s. It was an incredible opportunity to give back to a cause close to my heart, and I’m so pleased I was able to do it. Not only was it a great way to raise funds, but it also gave me the chance to face my fear of heights head-on – an unforgettable experience for an amazing cause’’.

Mark took part as a way to give back for the care his mum received. Mark said:

“I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the height as it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything like it, but I was fine – I wasn’t even scared when we got to the top. I was more worried about walking up the stairs to get there!

“It was a fantastic day, and the weather couldn’t have been much better. I’m really happy that my sponsors are still going up, as St Catherine’s did such a great job caring for my Mum before she passed away in 2023. This was my main drive for taking part in the event.”

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, donated, or supported the abseil. The bravery, generosity, and positivity on the day truly showed the heart of our hospice community.
