‘Oar-some’ Dragon Boat Festival is back!
There’s just over two weeks to go until St Catherine’s Hospice Dragon Boat Festival bursts back into Tilgate Park for an ‘oar-some’ day of free, family fun. Taking place on Sunday 10 September, and sponsored by Vines of Gatwick, this year’s festival is the biggest yet continuing until 8pm.
Between 10am and 4pm, you can cheer on more than 30 racing teams, made up of local businesses, including for the first time ever, a hospice team made up of community and ward nurses. You can also try your luck on traditional stalls, tackle a giant inflatable assault course, or relax with onsite food and drink from food vendors and a fully equipped bar, with a percentage of profits going to St Catherine’s. This year, there’ll be live music from local bands between 4pm and 8pm to enjoy too.
Darren Buche, MINI Sales Executive at Vines of Gatwick said: “We can’t wait to get back to Tilgate Park to race against St Catherine’s nurses, and other competitors, and see if we can retain our winning title. Every year, Dragon Boats is a fantastic family day out, and we hope you’ll come along and support us and other teams taking part. The cheering crowd makes all the difference when we get tired rowing!”
Research Nurse, Melanie Waghorn, is heading up the St Catherine’s team. She said: “We’ve been training hard and are ready to row! It’s an honour to care for our local community and we’re looking forward to raising vital funds so we can continue to provide local people with expert care when it’s needed most.
Everyday, we see first-hand the difference the generosity of our community makes; and by donating money to a Dragon Boat team, or attending the festival and playing on our fundraising stalls or buying onsite food or drink, you’re making sure that we can be here to care for local people so they don’t have to face death, unsupported, in pain or alone. As a nurse, that’s a huge comfort – Thank you.”
