Local hospice’s picturesque autumn hike returns

News and Blog

Calling all walking enthusiasts and nature lovers! Join St Catherine’s Hospice on Sunday 13 October for a challenging hike through the picturesque Sussex countryside.

Starting from the South of England Showground at Ardingly, a brand new venue for this year, the hike will take you through Sussex fields and past historic landmarks including the Balcombe Viaduct, Ardingly Reservoir and Wakehurst Place Seedbank. And will allow you to enjoy the changing colours of autumn whilst raising funds for your local hospice.

The full hike is 13 miles, but there are also 9 and 6 mile walking routes available, and a 3 mile nature trail, making this a family friendly event. Even suitable for the dog! There will be plenty of parking on the day, and you’ll be greeted with hot food, entertainment and delicious cakes to celebrate at the end of your hike.

Sophie Peckham, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at St Catherine’s said: “We’re delighted to host Sussex Landmarks Hike for a second year. This autumnal hike follows a stunning route through the Sussex countryside and is great fun for all involved. We hope lots of you will join us, along with your family and friends. Your support will help us be there to provide end of life care for more local people when they need us most.”

St Catherine’s is hoping to raise £35,000 from the Sussex Landmarks Hike by asking walkers for a donation or to raise sponsorship. This will allow the hospice to offer expert care to even more local terminally ill people in the future. At the moment, the local hospice can only care for one in three people who need them, but with your help and support, they’re determined to care for everyone.

Advance registration is £8 for adults (£10 on the day) and £5 for children. On the day registration is open from 9am at the South of England Showground at Ardingly. Ready to make your steps count?
