There’s still time to join our Midnight Walk

News and Blog

More than 150 people have already signed up to support our hospice by taking part in their own Midnight Walk this Christmas. And there’s still time for you to join them!

Taking place on Saturday 12 December 2020 from 4pm, this is your chance to do something amazing and help end the year on a positive note!

We’re calling on people like you to get together with up to six of your friends and family and walk your own 2, 7, 13 or 20 mile Midnight Walk. While you do, you’ll know that other hospice supporters are doing the same thing at the same time.

Although we’re still under restrictions, fortunately outdoor exercise is encouraged, and we hope you’ll use it, whilst observing social distancing, to get together with up to six of your family and friends, to enjoy a very special Midnight Walk this year.

We’ll send you everything you need to take part and fundraise safely. On the night our staff will set you off walking in style, with a special Facebook Live pre-walk celebration including entertainment and a virtual warm up.

A team of colleagues from DMH Stallard LLP and their families have signed up for the Midnight Walk as part of an ambitious virtual challenge they’re taking on, to pull Santa’s sleigh the equivalent distance from the North Pole to our hospice and back again all before Christmas Eve – That’s an incredible 8,652 km!

Lawrence Morley, Associate at DMH Stallard LLP said, “Our intrepid team have been busy running, walking, cycling (and anything in between!) to collectively cover our target distance. We need to make sure that the money we raise gets from the North Pole to St Catherine’s before Christmas and that we get Santa’s sleigh back to the North Pole in time for the big day! So far, our travels have been going really well and we have 46 registered athletes, collectively averaging over 1,000km a week. Under normal circumstances we would be running, walking and cycling together, but social distancing means we’re going solo to raise money.

This challenge has been a great way to keep us all stay connected. The Midnight Walk is a fantastic chance for us to do a final push towards our mileage with our own families, and we’re all looking forward to walking our own route, knowing other colleagues are doing the same thing. We’re really pleased to support St Catherine’s at such a critical time.”

After the year we’ve all had, we all deserve something to look forward to – Our Midnight Walk will be an unmissable, magical evening.

And every step you take will be special because you’ll be remembering the people you love and supporting us as your local hospice.

It’s only thanks to people like you supporting us that our teams can continue to provide essential end of life care and support.

Coronavirus has hit our hospice hard and this year there’s a predicted drop in income of around £1.5 million.

So, will you do something incredible this Christmas? Will you walk to remember the people you love and to support terminally ill people when it’s needed most?
