There’s still time to join our Midnight Walk

With just over three weeks to go, there’s still time to sign up for St Catherine’s Midnight Walk and make your steps count for your local hospice.

More than 1,000 people have already signed up for the walk which is taking place in Horsham on Saturday 9 June and you can join them! For the second year running, London Gatwick Airport is sponsoring the 7, 13 or 20 mile walk which is open to everyone.

This year’s walkers include Debbie Bond, who is flying 10,521 miles from Australia to walk in memory of her mum.

Debbie said: “This is the first time I’ve ever taken part in a sponsored walk or any type of exercise but I felt compelled to head back to England to take part with my wonderful Dad, my amazing sister and a group of great family friends.

My Mum passed away from cancer around a year and a half ago and I cared for her at home with my Dad and sister. It was my greatest honour and yet my greatest challenge. The support we had from St Catherine’s through those times was incredible. The hospice cared for Mum as an inpatient and I remember seeing an awesome photo of her with a G&T in hand after the ward drinks trolley went round, and sitting in the hospice garden having an ice cream with friends on a hot day. I need to do this walk to remember Mum and to raise funds for this amazing local charity. It means a lot to me that other families can get the support we had.”

Nearly 1,000 people walked through Horsham last year and raised more than £100,000 but this year, St Catherine’s is hoping for its biggest Midnight Walk to date.

Louise Brown, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said: “By signing up for our Midnight Walk you’re doing something special. We can only care for one in three local people at the moment so by taking part and raising money you’re helping make sure hospice care is there for more local people in your community. The Midnight Walk is always an inspiring night so we hope you, and your family and friends, will join us for a night to remember.”
