Our Statement on the Assisted Dying Bill – 24 April 2026

News and Blog

“At St Catherine’s Hospice we are aware that the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill has fallen with the end of the parliamentary session.

“We know that assisted dying remains a deeply complex and emotive issue, and that the community we support holds strong and differing views. Importantly, the Bill has played a critical role in highlighting the current inconsistencies in end of life provision across the NHS, social care and the charity sector. It has also ignited much needed conversations around fair funding for improved access to palliative care at a time when society is aging rapidly.

“Our priority is that the vital work of hospices continues to be understood and heard clearly in all future discussions around this challenging subject. There remains an urgent need for the government to address the long‑term sustainability of hospice funding, so that anyone requiring specialist palliative and end of life care can access the support they need to live with dignity, comfort and compassion for as long as possible.”
