St Catherine’s receives government funding
The government has confirmed the release of £25 million today to fund upgrades and refurbishments at hospices across England.
Giles Tomsett, our Chief Executive said, “We are pleased to announce that, as part of the first £25 million of the additional government funding pledged by Health Secretary Wes Streeting in December 2024, St Catherine’s has been allocated just over £200,000.
We welcome this hugely significant funding investment, which will benefit hospices across England and make a positive impact at our hospice.
The funding is restricted to use for facility upgrades, refurbishments, and IT improvements. As many will know here at St Catherine’s, thanks to the generous support of our community, we were fortunate to open a newly refurbished hospice, in December 2023, to improve hospice care for future generations.
Whilst we can and will use this government funding to benefit those needing end of life care in our community, what St Catherine’s truly needs is a long-term, sustainable hospice funding model. The government wants to move more care out of hospitals and into the community and our hospice teams are already providing this community support daily. Sustainable funding will allow our expert teams to continue providing specialist care, reduce NHS pressure and improve end of life care for more people in West Sussex and East Surrey.
We remain deeply grateful for the ongoing support and donations from so many people. This support is more critical than ever as we face ongoing funding challenges.”
