Thrifty Thursday

News and Blog

It costs around £10 million per year to run St Catherine’s Hospice, so that care and support can be given to local people free of charge at the most difficult time of their lives. Crucially, more than two thirds of our income is raised by our fantastic local community – people like you. One way in which our neighbours can support St Catherine’s is through our high street charity shops; did you know that we have 16 shops across West Sussex and East Surrey? Each one has something different to offer: from a coffee shop above our Crawley store, to our specialist Bridal store in Horsham for brides-to-be. But what they all have in common is quality items for great prices. Charity shops are often viewed as places where old, outdated or poor quality clothing and home ware is donated and sold, but we want to show you that this is not the case! Follow our Thrifty Thursday blog series for a sneak peek into the wide variety of wonderful items you can find in our shops.

Festival Fashion

The sun is shining and festival season is upon us, so it’s time to start thinking about those all important outfits. Festivals have fast become a place where style is as important as music, yet having already spent a small fortune on the ticket, how can you get that glitzy, summer look without breaking the bank? Well that is where we can help.

We put the challenge to our staff to pick out some festival outfits from our St Catherine’s charity shop in Billingshurst, West Sussex, and here are their favourite pieces:

Glitter and sequins are two festival fashion staples, so these gold sequin shorts are the perfect addition to your festival wardrobe. Teamed with a simple white shirt, this outfit is certainly going to turn heads. The gold sandals and accessories are the perfect finishing touch, and can easily be mixed and matched with all your festival outfits over the weekend, meaning more space in your bag for the essentials you just can’t do without.

The second outfit is this beautiful skirt boasting a fun, colourful pattern. Paired with a silver cami and the same shoes and accessories, this metallic mix is sure to be a favourite. With both outfits totalling less than £35, what is not to love about these charity shop gems?

What’s more, by popping into our shops and treating yourself to something new, you’ll be helping us reach even more people in your local community; from patients with a terminal illness that need our specialised care, to their loved ones who benefit from our bereavement support. Our hospice shops across West Sussex and East Surrey are hugely important to the work that we do, and last year brought in more than £1.6m for the hospice.

So if you want fabulous festival fashion without the hefty price tag, all whilst supporting your local hospice, then look no further than St Catherine’s Shops! You can find your nearest store here. We are also holding a summer sale next week (23 – 29 July) in all of our shops across West Sussex and East Surrey, with 50% off summer clothing and other goods, so come on down and see what fabulous outfits you can pick out for yourself!

Don’t forget we’re always on the lookout for donations of quality items too. Whether you’re planning a spring clean, are moving house or having a good de-clutter of your wardrobe, be sure to drop off your new, nearly new or no longer wanted, but good quality cleaned items at your local St Catherine’s Hospice shop. Find out more here.
