Celebrating our young volunteers

News and Blog

It’s National Volunteers Week this week and Power of Youth Day next Monday (6 June), an annual celebration of the contributions children and young people make to society through volunteering and social action so what better time to celebrate our young Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) volunteers?

Sucharita is one of our DoE volunteers. Here she shares more,

“I started volunteering with St Catherine’s to gain some experience for my DoE award and to help a charity that I was interested in finding out more about.

I have been volunteering for three years now

Volunteering in one of St Catherine’s shops has enabled me to meet other volunteers and staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! I’ve really enjoyed it as I like meeting new people and helping where I can.

I’m planning to study medicine at university and being involved as a shop volunteer, talking with staff and getting to know the charity, has given me greater insight into the amazing work of St Catherine’s and an interest to find out and do more.

I have a break for a short while due to my study commitments, but in the summer, I’m looking forward to taking on a new volunteering role in the hospice, supporting patients on the wards, which I know will give me so much valuable experience and I hope that I will be able to give something back.”

Thank you to Sucharita and to all our other young volunteers for supporting our hospice – we really appreciate your help.

Here are some more of our young volunteers receiving a Young Volunteers award from our Chief Executive, Giles.
