Plants and Gardens

From plant sales to tours and open gardens, help grow our support

Spruce up your garden so St Catherine’s can continue to provide expert hospice care

Due to coronavirus restrictions, many of our blooming marvelous Open Gardens haven’t been able to go ahead as planned for the last two years.

Is 2022 the year you share your green-fingered skills with our amazing community? Help your local hospice to flourish and grow funds to help families when they really need us.

Share your talents and green space with your friends and family this spring and summer.

Yearly Open Garden event captivates viewers online

Gordon Gillett was unable to open his private garden to the public last summer, so he created a special in memory film instead, raising over £5000 for St. Catherine’s Hospice.

This beautiful space was originally created by his wife Carol, who spent years transforming what was a 1 ¾ acre wilderness into a gorgeous garden. Carole died peacefully at the hospice in 2019.

When lockdown prevented visitors, Gordon set up his Just Giving page and the family invited people to take a virtual visit instead by watching the film and donating. Made by Gordon’s grandson Tom, the special film was a hit and was expertly hosted by their dog, Briony.

The greatest Oaks have been little Acorns.

Despite events being cancelled due to the pandemic, a seed of an idea can still grow into a wonderful result – these Open Gardens and in-person plant sales went online to fundraise for us during lockdown:

Maureen & Mike's plant sales

Green-fingered Maureen and Mike Hooker have often held a big plant sale to fundraise for us. Last year, Maureen’s daughter Diane posted the plants for sale on Facebook, where buyers were then able to pick up their plants and drop off a donation. Plant sales have raised an incredible £2500.

Saxon's usual Open Garden pivots to plant sale

Usually hosting the Saxon Trail, Kevin Stokes decided that with all the restrictions in place it was best not to host an Open Garden this year. Instead his good friends and neighbours helped put plants for sale online using Facebook Marketplace, raising over £1000 so far - a fantastic result!

Not planning on hosting your own open garden or plant sale?

You can still support our hospice by attending one of the open gardens or plant sales in your local community!
