Great trek adventure for St Catherine’s

News and Blog

As Chinese New Year rings in, St Catherine’s Hospice is thrilled to launch its second overseas adventure – a breathtaking trek along the Great Wall of China.

We’re looking for intrepid adventurers, who are willing to become China Challengers, and take on a once in a lifetime hike across one of the world’s greatest landmarks. For more than 2,000 years the Great Wall of China has proudly stood to keep out invaders and now, you could join us to create your own historic moment. It’s a decision you won’t regret. You’ll make life-long memories and friendships as you experience one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

Taking place between 5-13 May 2018, the mesmerising trip is the perfect chance to tick something off your own bucket list, while raising money to help terminally ill people in your community. Your £3,300 sponsorship will help local people benefit from expert end of care, when and where they need it most, and every step you take will help us be there when life comes full circle.

If you’re daring enough to sign up, you’ll trek from Gubeikou to Simatai on a remote section of the wall, and be rewarded with world class views of green rolling hills and mountain peaks as you trek through wild and remote landscapes. You’ll also get to explore rural China with expert guides who know the best spots off the beaten track. Staying in guest accommodation, you’ll get a unique chance to experience ‘real China’, discover more about local lifestyles and indulge in incredible, local food.

And it’s not a journey you’ll embark on alone. We’ll be with you every step of the way. Our team will be on hand to help you with your fundraising and training, and will host regular events before your trip so you can meet and get to know your fellow trekkers.

But why should you take part? Janet Mayhew who took on and completed our last overseas challenge to Vietnam explains: “The Vietnam trek was completely out my comfort zone, but I wanted to do something I could look back on and feel proud of. I didn’t only see and experience incredible things, but I also made some special friends. If you’re reading this and feeling even slightly tempted by China, my advice is believe in yourself and go for it – make your life an adventure!”

If you or someone you know is ready to jump in and join us a China Challenger, or would like to find out more about this exciting adventure, please contact Michaela Clements on 01293 583063, email events@stch.org.uk or come along to our information evening at St Catherine’s Hospice, Malthouse Road, on Thursday 23 February between 6pm – 9pm.
