Walking not for you? You can still join us at the Midnight Walk as a volunteer!
Last year, our incredible team of over 100 volunteers helped 600 walkers raise an astonishing £115,000 during the Midnight Walk. Now, we’re gearing up for an even bigger and better event in 2024, and we need YOUR enthusiasm and support to make it the most unforgettable adventure yet!
Date: 8 June 2024 – 9 June 2024
Times: Volunteers needed from 2 pm to 6 am, with an average shift length of 4 hours. When you apply you will be able to tell us your preferred shift timings.
Location: Horsham
Route Guides
– Be a guiding light on this incredible night! In pairs, you’ll play a crucial role in leading walkers along the Horsham Route.
– Be stationed along the route, providing direction
– Answer questions and report any issues to St Catherine’s staff
– Most importantly, offer uplifting words of encouragement to boost morale!
Shifts available 7pm –5am
Base Volunteers
– Become the heartbeat of the event at our base at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre!
– Distributing medals to our triumphant walkers.
– Pouring prosecco and serving a delicious breakfast.
– Engaging in friendly conversations and offering support.
Shifts available 2pm-6am
Refreshment Stops
– At one of three rest stops across Horsham, you’ll keep our walkers fuelled, hydrated and invigorated to complete the walk.
– Setting up refreshment stops
– Handing out food and drinks
– Keeping things tidy
– Engaging in friendly conversations and offering support.
Shifts available 7pm-4am
Why take part?
We could not run this event without our incredible volunteers, by volunteering at the Midnight Walk, you’ll make sure that:
- Our friendly nurses can make essential visits to local families at home
- People staying on our wards can continue to have visits from their family, surrounded by the love and care of our nurses
What you’ll get:
- A pre-event meet-up two weeks in advance for a detailed briefing and to meet fellow volunteers.
- Torches, high-vis jackets, and snacks provided.
- The chance to play a crucial part in St Catherine’s biggest fundraising night of the year!

“I started volunteering because my wife Katy was helped by St Catherine’s. Volunteering at the Midnight Walk is my way of saying thanks and give back.
Being a route guide can be very busy but there’s a great vibe and everyone is happy to be there doing it, and lots of walkers are remembering relatives and friends on the night. It’s a great evening and good fun directing and encouraging people, particularly towards the end!”
I’d encourage anyone to come along and volunteer at the event. It’s not difficult or onerous – you just have to be awake through the night and be willing to help out. Even if you can only give up a couple of hours, it’s good fun and it’s a great way to give back and show your support for St Catherine’s Hospice.”
