Volunteer of the Year award win for our amazing Angie

News and Blog

We’re thrilled that one of our amazing volunteers, Angie Challis, recently won the Volunteer of the Year Award at the Crawley Community Awards.

Angie has been a dedicated and committed volunteer with our hospice for an incredible 29 years and 11 months!

As part of her volunteering Angie has been Chair of the Burstow Friends of St Catherine’s Group for many years, where she plays a vital role, helping represent our hospice out in the community.

Since 1988, Burstow Friends have raised nearly £418,000 for our hospice, many of those years have had Angie at the helm

Angie is organised, enthusiastic, passionate and a shining example of a supporter who, when the world throws her lemons, she makes lemonade! Angie always has time and shows care for people she encounters making them feel valued and she has a great eye for a fundraising opportunity.

As well as raising an incredible amount of money to support our care, Angie also donates her time by volunteering with our Learning, Education and Development Team

She’s volunteered with this team for nearly 7 years and her support has been invaluable.

Always reliable, Angie will even plan her personal diary around key dates in the team’s calendar!

Her excellent Excel skills and her willingness to help with any task mean she has supported the team with many volunteer tasks. These include inputting data into a new HR database, supporting with data audits, preparing welcome bags for new starters, clearing out offices, collating and wrapping staff gifts for a staff raffle and setting up meeting rooms for training, helping us to share our end of life expertise with internal and external healthcare colleagues.

Angie is known by many people here at St Catherine’s and is a greatly valued member of our team

We wouldn’t be able to do the work we do without amazing volunteers like Angie, and we’re so thrilled she has been recognised for her incredible efforts.

On behalf of us all, congratulations Angie and thank you for all you do to support our teams and our hospice.
