Created with the technique of hot wax painting, Jackie’s design is based on the Whirlpool of Grief theory. This theory describes the process through which we negotiate our way through the River of Life; where we come to a precipice and tumble over the waterfall of bereavement, before being thrown into the Whirlpool of Grief. The sunrise on the back of the heart represents the shining light of hope and the rising of what is to become the “new normal” and starkly contrasts with the rocks and upheaval of the waterfall on the front of the heart. Sponsored by the people of Horsham in a community campaign named ‘Hearts for Horsham’.
Jackie is a nurse at St Catherine’s Hospice. In order to balance the emotional impact of working in a hospice, Jackie uses art as a creative outlet and a hobby and escape.
