Our Youth Enterprise Project (YEP) a smashing success!

News and Blog

After a break because of COVID, we were thrilled to bring back our YEP (Youth Enterprise Project) Awards Night on Thursday 26 May at Three Bridges Football Club.

It was a fantastic evening where we had chance to celebrate five schools: Lingfield College, Worth School, Hazelwick, St Wilfrid’s Catholic School and Thomas Bennett who have been fundraising for us over the last 10 weeks.

Our YEP project challenges pupils to turn £50 into £1,500 or more over 10 weeks by holding their own various fundraising events

The project, which we’ve been running for many years, is in partnership with NatWest, who provide mentors for each school to help pupils develop their business skills and make the most of their fundraising.

Every year schools come up with great, inventive ways to raise money for our hospice and this year was no exception. Fundraising ideas included; one non uniform day, fun runs, a teacher vs pupil football match, bake sales, a hot chocolate stand, pie the teacher, and guess how many sweets in the jar.

At the award nights schools prepared presentation boards and supplementary videos to showcase how they fundraised to a panel of judges

Judges included, Giles, our Chief Executive, Wayne, our Head of Facilities and Hospitality, Faye Long, Regional Director @ NatWest and Paul McConalogue, Director of Commercial Banking at Natwest. The judging panel moved from one school to another to judge their efforts before awards were given out.

Awards and winners included:

– Most Money Raised:  Hazelwick
– Pound Per Pupil: Hazelwick
– Best Presentation: St Wilfrid’s Catholic School
– Most Innovative Idea: Lingfield College
– Best Marketing Strategy: Worth School
– Overcoming Adversity: Thomas Bennett

In total, collectively, the five schools raised an incredible £12,871.13 to support our care and our services.

Our YEP awards were a really successful evening and we had overwhelmingly positive feedback. Three of the five schools who took part have already confirmed they’d like to participate again next year.
