Whether you’re planning a spring clean, are moving house or having a good de-clutter of your wardrobe, be sure to drop off your new, nearly new or no longer wanted, but good quality cleaned items at your local St Catherine’s Hospice shop. We’d be delighted to accept any of the following:
- Good quality and clean men’s, women’s, children’s and baby clothes
- Books and DVD’s
- Children’s toys which have a CE label
- Games and jigsaws
- Good quality furniture
- Working white goods
Your rag – it’s big business!
We are also able to accept bags of clearly-labelled rag materials; items that are old and unwanted that we can then recycle and give to third parties to earn our charity much needed additional income. For each 1kg worth of rag we can make £5.50 which is all money towards caring for our patients.
If you have:
- Old clothing (including underwear)
- Books that are not good enough quality to re-sell
We can still make good use of them! All you need to do is sort the items into separate bags for clothes, shoes, bags and old books, clearly label them ‘rag’ and then drop them off at your local shop.
With any donation that you bring into the shop, don’t forget to claim Gift Aid! You can find out more here.
Items we can’t accept
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to accept everything that you may wish to donate. This is due to health and safety regulations.
To help us help more patients, please avoid donating the following:
- Upholstered furniture without the correct fire labels – please ensure any furniture items have the correct BS7177 fire label sewn into them that complies with British safety specifications
- Soiled or dirty clothing
- Damaged crockery and glassware
- Duvets or pillows
- Broken toys
- Toys without a conforming CE safety label
- VHS video tapes
- Opened cosmetics
- Large electrical goods
- Medical equipment
- Firearms or any type of weapon
You can drop off your good quality donations and clearly marked bags of rag at any of our St Catherine’s shops – just find your local one here together with opening times of the shops.
Please do not leave donations outside the front or back of any of our shops overnight or when the store is closed. Unfortunately donations left outside either get stolen or get damaged which means we are unable to sell them. We then have to pay for the donations to be taken away, losing us valuable income that could go toward our patient care.
Remember, our Furniture Store in Crawley is also open on a Sunday for donation drop offs.
We also offer a donation collection service and house clearance services to help bring your donations to one of our shops. To find out more about this, please call our Retail team on 01293 583077.
