Thakeham – ‘Why we’re supporting the Heart to Heart trail for St Catherine’s Hospice.’

Heart to Heart News News and Blog

We’re delighted that Thakeham has agreed to be the headline sponsor of our brand new Heart to Heart trail in 2019. Thakeham has supported St Catherine’s Hospice for several years and to date has raised more than £22,000 for the hospice.

Here’s a little more on why they choose to support us and what the project means to Thakeham:

Why did you choose to get involved with the Heart to Heart trail?

“Our relationship with St Catherine’s has grown over the years, largely based on the progress we have made together at Pease Pottage, which will see St Catherine’s in a brand-new hospice. Today the whole team feels a connection to the Hospice and we support the charity throughout the year in various fundraising events. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further support St Catherine’s in such a unique campaign. We know the local community will be inspired to come together on the HeART to Heart Trail and raise vital funds for the Hospice.

Why is it important for Thakeham to get involved with local community projects and initiatives?

“Our ambition is to not just deliver new homes but to enhance existing communities through housebuilding, as well as to create new, thriving communities. St Catherine’s Hospice is at the heart of the local community – often hidden from the public eye but each day providing incredible care and support to many families. The Heart to Heart campaign is a great example of using art to bring people together. Without question, we wanted to support St Catherine’s.

What are the benefits to Thakeham of taking part in Heart to Heart?

“We have a relationship with St Catherine’s and the future is incredibly exciting for us both – we will deliver a fabulous new community at Pease Pottage and St Catherine’s will realise an on-going ambition in its new hospice – to be able to deliver more care than ever for the local community. The Heart to Heart campaign is a great way for us to all come together and communicate far and wide, the excellent care St Catherine’s provides.

Why is supporting a local charity so important to Thakeham?

For Thakeham, supporting local businesses and charities is really important. We are a local business, employing local people and delivering high quality new home to local communities. Where possible, we buy materials locally and use local services and labour on our sites. We care a great deal about long lasting relationships and who better to work with than the local people of Sussex and Surrey. We hope our success can help St Catherine’s in providing essential services to a local community.

What are you most looking forward to about being a part of Heart to Heart?

“We want to involve the whole team – for everyone at Thakeham to be inspired to get involved at some point – We are sure many will take on the challenge of finding each heart! It’s been really exciting choosing our heart, showing it off to the team at the office, meeting the artist and other artists involved – the reach of a campaign like this is huge and we wish St Catherine’s a fantastic fundraising, community inspiring effort!

We can only care for 1 in 3 people currently that need us: how does that make you feel, and does this motivate you more to support St Catherine’s?

“At Thakeham, our fundraising efforts have really focused on this point. Most of the team live within the area that St Catherine’s covers. This means for every three people in the office that may need the charity’s help, the statistics say that only one will receive help. The realisation that St Catherine’s is only able to care for 33% of the local people that need help has spurred us on to help wherever and whenever we can.”
