From a field to a hospice
Giles Tomsett, our Chief Executive shares an update about our new hospice building at Grace Holland Avenue in Pease Pottage.
“We’re thrilled to say we’ve formally stood down our New Build Programme and now draw to a close our new St Catherine’s Hospice build at Pease Pottage now we have settled in successfully.
From a donation of a field by Bill Bridges in 2013, 10 years later, many donors gave their time and money to help us realise our new hospice at Pease Pottage and we thank all of them and our build partners today:
Bill Bridges for gifting us land after he and his family experienced our care. His donation has been truly transformational
Billie Bridges, Don Burstow and Paul Graham for their support to Bill and our hospice over so many years
Thakeham/Abri for funding our early architecture fees and helping secure planning permission whilst being close partners throughout the build
Andrew Wates for chairing our New Build Programme Board and for all of his generous advice, guidance and expertise and Bill Mackie for his invaluable legal guidance – both giving their time pro bono over so long
The team at Barnes Construction for constructing our building “with love” and co-ordinating the contribution of a thousand construction workers over 86 weeks
LSI Architects and Building Ideas Architects whose vision and attention to detail has made sure our hospice is functional while epitomising a truly personalised patient experience
Northmores Project Managers for guiding us through our project helping us learn from other recent hospice builds
Faithful & Gould (Now known as AtkinsRealis) for keeping us on track with our contract spend – important as all monies were raised from donations by local people, trusts/charities and businesses
DMH Stallard for drafting many legal documents and protecting our interests at every step
The team at Trident for designing and installing our entire IT infrastructure at our new home
Freemans for supporting us free of charge with mortuary services whilst we relocated our mortuary from Malthouse Road, Crawley to Grace Holland Avenue
SECAmb for providing an ambulance and team of paramedics pro bono, to support the entirely successful move of our patients from our old site to our new home
Hewitsons who oversaw all our construction contracts and associated construction warranties
Our pharmacists from Kamsons who ensured continuity of supply of drugs during our move and set up our new medicines room stock and replenishment systems
Strive AV for advice and support in approaching AV across the hospice; supplying the standard kit and fitting this for free in our wide ranging spaces including patient bedrooms
Joyce Groundworks for providing pro bono management of the muckaway logistics as we levelled our site and carried out our final landscaping works
Santander Consumer Finance for volunteering time to create a really special garden space in the grounds of our new home and Splash Projects for co-ordinating and leading this work so that the garden is designed for the needs of patients and families who visit us
All of our wonderful supporters who donated time and money towards a dream
Thank you for bringing our new St Catherine’s building to life.“
