Statement from Giles Tomsett on funding announcement
Protecting our hospice is more vital than ever.
“Today, we welcome the second phase of government funding for hospices and are pleased to confirm that St Catherine’s will receive just over £600k. This funding is specifically allocated for facilities, refurbishments, and IT improvements.
“As many of you will know, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we opened our newly refurbished hospice in December 2023, purpose-built to support outstanding care for generations to come. While this new funding will help us enhance our environment and technology, it cannot be used for the day-to-day delivery of hospice care.
“Right now, what St Catherine’s and the UK hospice sector urgently needs is a long-term, sustainable funding model for hospice services. The NHS Long Term Plan rightly focuses on moving care out of hospitals and into communities, but this vision must be matched by proper funding and meaningful, lasting investment.
“Until that happens, we continue to rely on you, our wonderful community, to help us protect the future of hospice care. Your donations fund the specialist care, compassion, and dignity that people need at the end of life.”
