Successful summer fete for St Catherine’s
Malthouse Road was the place to be on Saturday 18 July, as St Catherine’s Hospice hosted its summer fete.
Chief Executive Giles Tomsett welcomed the local community to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon as he officially opened the fete at 1pm and Meridian Radio were on hand to keep the party going by playing summer tunes. Traditional fete stalls like hook a duck proved popular and more unusual attractions like caricature drawing, human fruit machine and a smoothie making bike also attracted attention. In between the fun and games, visitors enjoyed BBQ snacks, delicious cream teas and took the time to relax with a complementary therapy.
The fete saw supporters from across Sussex and Surrey turn out, from people with a personal connection to St Catherine’s to families keen to support a local charity. Visitors were able to meet the names and faces behind St Catherine’s and find out more about the free care the hospice provides, to patients and their family and friends, for as long as they need it. They also had chance to hear how they can help the hospice by volunteering and learn how the hospice is working hard to integrate with and play an active role in the local community as part of its mission to provide leadership in the support of those facing death and bereavement.
Each day, it costs St Catherine’s more than £17,000 to carry out their expert work and money raised from the summer fete will help make sure that the hospice’s vital, free care continues to reach local people in need.

It’s been a great way to share the vital work St Catherine’s does in caring for terminally ill people and their family and friends within the local community and a perfect way to say thank you to supporters from across Sussex and Surrey.”
