“Coming under the care of St Catherine’s has been such a positive experience. Support from a hospice doesn’t mean you’re going to die tomorrow – it’s not a death sentence, it’s life-enhancing.

The hospice is a wonderful community resource that offers a vitally important service to ill people and their families. It’s a treasure on our doorsteps for us all to be grateful for – everyone should support it.” – Lorretta

Margaret’s story

“I’m a different woman today to when I came into the hospice – I honestly didn’t believe a place like this, that could help you so much, existed. I feel so happy and safe here.

I’ve even managed my first solid meal again – roast lamb for Sunday lunch. Boy did I enjoy it! I took a picture to send to my children and they couldn’t believe I was eating again.

I’ve been able to sit and read my paper in the hospice garden, and the hospice has supported my family too.

Until you need a place like this you don’t stop and think about it, but there’s no better place to give your money. I’ve never experienced care, understanding and patience like this. The hospice has helped me so much.”

Carrie’s story

“It didn’t feel like a hospice during the time Mum and I were there, it was our home.

Mum was at the hospice in the September, and I remember the most perfect day sitting outside in the late summer’s sun, with Mum in her bed in the garden.

We were talking about where in the world we’d be if we weren’t at the hospice and discussing what beach we’d be sitting on. One of the nurses asked, ‘what beach are you on then?’ and the team told us that they’d make some food and drink that would help us feel like we were there. They made us a fruity cocktail.

We sat admiring the colours of the garden flowers, drinking our cocktails in the afternoon sun. I’m so grateful that I had the chance to share that precious moment with Mum.”
